Rob's three first places compare with six for Malcolm and seven for Tom. With two races to go, Rob cannot overhaul Malcolm for second and only Malcolm stands in the way of Tom retaining his title.
Mick, Tony, Damian and Graham MacNeil are 4th. to 7th. Andy moves above Trevor for 8th. Jim and Patrick are 9 and 10. Christine & Geoff move above Mike. Andrew, Ian, Kate, Peter Watson and Graham Screawn are 15th. to 19th. Gavin goes above Paul Garnett, Simon and Paul Norris into 20th.
Clare goes above Jon for 28th. Sue completes her seven races for 34th. Sharon goes above Huma and Roy for 37th. Jarrod comes-in at 41st. and Catriona at 44th.Sarah Miles moves above Peter Bream and Nina for 50th.

The threatened late arrival of summer had not reached Macclesfield; 16o with a cool wind and in the latter stages a, not unwelcome, drizzle. It's five years since I've run Macc. I picked-up the over-60 prize then (this seems to have become a little harder as the race has matured) but this is a pleasant time of year to travel and, in truth, I've never greatly missed it; hilly half-marathons are for those made of sterner stuff.
Rob was 5th. and 1st.M45 (Runner of the Month is going to be interesting, as well as a number of good candidates there are three outstanding ones). Mike, another likely candidate, was 33rd., one place ahead of Graham.
Diane McVey was third lady, only a minute behind the winner. Janine managed to reverse Christine's recent ascendency. Christine was 1st.L45 and Diane Bygrave 1st.L35. Kate was a little closer to her usual self as was Clare, who fought off a late challenge from Angela. Melissa maintained the form she'd shown at Sutton and we had the, now, rare treat of a race from Amanda, her 2011 Series debut. Sue, who took ages to get going, has actually achieved her seven races with something to spare and this was a good time for someone who doesn't do hills. Sharon listened to everyone's advice to start more slowly, her conclusion "I finished more slowly as well", well let's see what the form scores say. Cat and Carolyn were on par, when you allow for the tougher course, with their Wilmslow performance but this was a stronger run from Sarah. Gail seems to have struggled.
Diane took her first League 3 60 points edging out Andy by two seconds with Steve not far behind. Allan was fourth followed Paul Garnett, Jarrod and Paul Norris.
League 4 league-leader, Geoff, was back after missing two races but outrun by Gavin, who must be another contender this month. Patrick was also unable to add to his points score as a great run from Janine moved her up the pecking-order. Jarrod and Geoff were given the same time, with Janine only five seconds behind. Christine was followed by Diane in her best run of the Series. Then Kate. Clare swapped places round the course with Ian but in the end Angela split them. James, Andy and Gareth finished within two seconds but it looked more like a pact than a competition.
Simon, having recorded his first League 5 win last week, made it two in a row. Melissa made it two second places in succession and Peter (another contender?) was again third and also 1st.M70. Amanda and Sharon pushed League 5 champion Chris down to sixth. Then came Cat, warming-up for next weekend, Carolyn, Sarah and Gail. Ned, who likes the Half, made his Series debut. Roy has been questioning all week whether to run, he may still be.
Enjoyed the noisy support from Alan, Soraya, Mike, Elspeth , Ray and there were probably others, I wasn't at my most perceptive.
I'll have a go on the impact upon the tables, Don will correct:-
Damian and Malcolm head the Main table, Rob, having completed his seven, comes in at third.
Jim, Graham MacNeil, Trevor, Tom, Andrew, Mike and Graham Screawn make-up the top ten.
Andy moves above Mick and Rob Gilbert.
Geoff moves above Jon & Gareth.
Christine moves above Matt & Andy Dodd.
Jarrod comes in at 26th.
Gavin moves above Ian, John, Steve Russell, Owen, Chris and Angela.
Ian moves above John.
Clare moves above Peter, Don and Gail.
Sue comes-in at 44th.
Sharon moves above Don, Gail, Roy and Nina.
Sarah moves above Julie and Trevor
Catriona comes in at 53rd.
Christine and Janine remain tied at the top of the Ladies table.
Kate, Angela, Clare, Soraya, Huma and Carolyn are unchanged.
Sue comes in at 9th., above Sharon but she holds-off Catriona who has also completed her seven.
Nina, Gail, Julie and Sarah hold station.
No changes at the top of the League 3; Mick, Tony, Paul Garnett, Andy, Paul Norris, Aron, Jon, Mathew and Gareth
Jarrod comes in at 10th.
Geoff, Patrick, Christine and Andy continue to lead League 4.
Gavin moves above Janine, Steve and Kate.
John, Peter, Ian, Owen, Angela and James are unchanged.
Clare goes above Huma.
Sue comes in below Don.
Chris has won League 5 and Alan will finish second.
Simon looks certain to take the third podium place ahead of Soraya and Peter.
Carolyn and Sharon head Cat who comes-in at 8th.
Then its Roy, Nina, Gail, Trevor, Julie and Sarah.
At least a dozen are running at Luberon next weekend (forecast 27o, Tom and Andy are doing the marathon but most settling for the Half). There's the potential of a lot of points going spare at Alexandra Park?

This was Rob's second 60 points in six races. For Mick it was his seventh race and with two wins, three seconds and two thirds he moves into bronze medal position behind Tom and Malcolm.
Tom has seven wins, Malcolm six. It is going to go to the wire; even a win at Macclesfield this weekend would not ensure Tom retains his championship. A win by Malcolm would make it very interesting.
Tony is in fourth place followed by Damian, Graham MacNeil, Trevor, Andy, Jim, Patrick and Mike. Christine moves above Geoff into 11th.
The top twenty is made-up of Andrew, Ian, Kate, Peter Watson, moving above Graham Screawn, Paul Garnett and Simon, moving ahead of Paul Norris.
Gavin, completing his seven is 22nd. Sharon overtakes Andy Dodd for 37th. Matt's qualifying race gives him 44th. Thereafter everyone holds station.
Rob Downs could go into third place with the right result on Sunday and there are eleven other runners on six races so the table could look very different after Macclesfield.

Sunday September 18th.
As has been generally true this year, conditions were good for running; the rain held off, the wind was gentle and it was an overcast 16o. The priority was for the Men to retain the Cheshire Grand Prix Championship, we had a good response from Groups 1 & 2 and it looked, at the finish, very much like 'job done' and Nick has subsequently confirmed. The Ladies had already secured their win but we were out in sufficient strength to enjoy a lap of honour. They like the Men had to settle for second on the day but, ask Sir Alex, it is the consistency over the season that wins championships.
Louise was 3rd. individual Cheshire lady (and first L35), Christine 4th.(and 1st. L45), Janine 5th (and 1st.L40), Kate 6th. and Angela 10th. Nicky was 1st. L50.
Damian was the 2011 individual Men's champion. Rob was 5th.(and 1st. M45), Jim 7th. and Graham MacNeil 9th. Tom was 1st. M55, Mick 1st. M60, Ian 1st. M65 and Peter 1st. M70.
Priority number two was the Summer Series. For those who had not completed their 7 races this is a critical period; 39 Wilmslow runners, so you were going to earn your points. One who is probably not going to make it is Rod, sad to see him on the sidelines. His knee's been a problem since Offa's Dyke, and it looks, for the first time since the competition started in the latter end of the last century, that Tony's going to have to reduce the order for the XL T-shirts . For those who had already qualified, with the stars out for the Grand Prix, more of us were likely to be running for pride rather than points.
Damian was 4th., Rob 8th., Jim (apparently recovered from 100 miles per day on the bike) 13th , Graham 15th. , Andrew 24th. and Mike 36th.
Louise needs races to complete her 7, but more than that she needs wins to retain her position as Ladies' champion. So the small inconvenience of a broken shoulder, sustained only four weeks ago, was not going to get in her way. Sharon Johnstone bolstered the Ladies' Grand Prix score in her 2011 Series debut. Christine versus Janine was fought the length of the course and only 5 seconds separated them at the finish. Louisa worked her way through the field in the latter stages for another good score. Kate and Jane both seemed to be running within themselves. Melissa had a big PB, a brilliant run. Sharon Jones defends her approach of starting fast over the early kilometres as the only way she can do it and she showed, by breaking 58 minutes for the first time, that she is paying-back less in the second half. Carolyn, targeting 50 minutes, had Curtis playing Chris Brasher to her Roger Bannister, but the four-minute mile and her PB, will have to wait another day. Elspeth had an excellent run and, I gather, a PB. Gail's on the long trail back to where she was a year ago, enthusiasm undiminished. Laura damaged her foot.
In this, his qualifying race, Mick notched-up his 5th. Group 3 60 points. He was followed by Louise, she's amazing, Andy, Tony, Steve and Paul Garnett. Ed, like Sharon, was making a belated entrance into the Series. In contrast this was number 13 for Paul Norris and for Matt his qualifying race, whilst Simon needs two of the last three for his first T-shirt. Gareth took another valuable step back to where he should be.
Christine took her second Group 4 win of the season, and her second in three races. Janine's run 16 races but she's still adding to her score. Gavin is probably running better than at any time in the last two years, apparently throwing-off his knee problem without the need of the surgeon's knife. In a good day for points in Group 4, Andy was able to up his total. Ian, by passing Jane and Kate in the latter stages and then getting back to Louisa after she'd overtaken him up the hill, scored vital points in his fluctuating battle with Owen and Angela. Even without the toilet break this would not have been one of Owen's better runs.
Simon gets better and better, he took 45 seconds off his Birchwood time, reversing Peter's victory of last month for his first Group 5 win. Melissa's PB split the two of them for 59 points. Peter's been going steadily faster all year, something I'm not sure you're supposed in the over 70 category. Sharon's running is also on an upswing but Carolyn's not quite hitting the highs of the early season. Roy ran much better than at Birchwood. Janet's already moving-up the pecking order and a big stride forward for Elspeth. Only three more races and Gail will break the record number of races for the season (but it looks like she'll have to share it with Carolyn and Chris). Trust Laura is going to be OK. Just one more race and Martin will have completed the hardest (and longest?) ever seven races.
Mick Fairs, Mathew Atkinson and Gavin Mendham are the names added to the 2011 T-shirt and mug. Qualifiers now total 49, competitors 96. In theory 69 can complete the Series but the probability is that we'll be below last year's 60.
Cat, with Mike, was giving welcome and forceful support, but why wasn't she running her qualifying race - what's she saving herself for?
You'll have to check, when the updated leagues are published, the extent to which, in what follows, I've got the impact of Sutton on the tables right.
Damian was, of course, 2011 champion some time ago. Malcolm, Jim, Graham MacNeil and Trevor are still 2, 3, 4 and 5. Mick comes-in at 13th., Matt at 21st. and Gavin at 32nd. Peter Watson goes above Don and Gail. Sharon overtakes Julie, Trevor and Sarah
Sutton left the Ladies' leader-board unchanged with Janine and Christine tied in first place. Kate is third, Angela fourth. They are followed by Clare, Soraya ,Huma, Carolyn, Sharon, Nina, Gail, Julie and Sarah Miles.
Tony, who has led League 3 since the start of the Series, is deposed by old rival Mick. Paul Garnett is third followed by Andy, Paul Norris, Aron and Jon. Even with Matt, who comes-in above Gareth, there are only 9 qualifiers so far in League 3.
In contrast there 17 qualifiers in League 4. Gavin, having completed his seventh race, and Ian, going above Owen, are the only climbers. Geoff leads. Patrick and Christine are on the podium. Then Janine, Steve, Kate, Gavin, John, Peter, Ian, Owen, Angela, James, Huma, Clare and Don.
Chris is now champion of League 5, Alan can no longer catch him. Simon's win, taking him back above Soraya into 3rd., is the only change, then it's Peter, Carolyn, Sharon, Roy, Nina, Gail, Trevor, Julie and Sarah.

Hell Runner Up North, Approx 18 tough K, Sunday 11th 2011
A group of intrepid , highly tuned Wilmslow RC Athletes, guests and supporters headed off onto the Cheshire plains to compete in the 2011 Hell Runner up North. Inspired by Mark Bale's fantastic performance on the previous day, a fifth place finish in a time of 1:31:37, and the fact that it was 20 degrees warmer than last year and dry, we were all in high spirits and full of confidence as the team bus trundled its way down the A56.
The field did not appear to be as large as last year and the course was a lot drier considering the amount of rain recently . We had intended to stick together around the course but the the start was very congested and we had soon split up into three or four groups.
It is great event and the two bogs that have to be negotiated are really good fun, photo's to follow as proof and hopefully Patricks report.
Diane 1:52:12 ( Seventh female finisher and inspired by the shy young men dressed in bright green mankini )
Aaron 1:52:12

Sunday September 11
A new, or some would say revised (Roy apparently finished 8th. in 19??), race in its second year. Well organised, lots of marshals, chip timing (although results currently only give 'gun') . Perhaps expensive at twice the price of Sutton, although significantly cheaper than the Macc Half and a lot cheaper than Wilmslow, perhaps organisers are concluding that races are not price sensitive.
In format not dissimilar to Gawsworth with a mix of road and footpaths and even a footbridge (the one over the A34 near Total Fitness) . In fact you seem to criss-cross the A34 all race but, if that sounds negative it is misleading, it's a pleasant course that we all agreed we enjoyed.
Rob got second and Mike and Tony added further Wilmslow class. There were no category prizes but Tony and Simon won valuable spot prizes; Running Bear socks. Gareth's rehabilitation took another step forward as he prepares for his Chester Marathon. Simon was perhaps a touch below the standard he's achieved in recent races but, with more Wilmslow colleagues to terrorise next Sunday, expect him back at his competitive best. For Roy it was two in two days following the all-time second fastest 60-64 run at Wythenshawe Parkrun course on the Saturday.

Angela Maziere is having a good year the highlight of which was a magnificent run at Meerbrook.
Peter Watson has also run well all year and nearly always picks up the over 70 award. In the smaller races, our runners often come home weighed-down with prizes but in a high-class race at Birchwood, Peter was our only category winner.
Chris 'Curtis' Cannon, is having a brilliant year. He has run all 17 races in the Summer Series and is steadily seeing-off all his challengers for the League 5 title. In August he ran particularly well at Pie & Peas and Birchwood.
This was the first month under the new method of choosing. In fact, the panel was evenly split so the decision was determined, as in the past, by the runner, Chris, voted-in by the club as a whole.

Day 9: Drumnadrochit to Tongue
Mileage: 98
Cycling time: 6hr 38m
Total mileage: 881
Total cycling time: 59hr 43m
Another awesome day in both the saddle and in terms of scenery as we headed right up to the north coast before our final assault east to John O'Groats tomorrow. Saying that, to be honest we don't even feel we are really in Britain at all such is the stunning solitude and scenery in this part of the world. With moorland and great forests surrounded by towering peaks and giant tarns it reminds me more of a Canadian skyscape than anything closer to home. One wonders how many people in Britain have actually ever ventured this far north!
The day didn't begin well with Graham puncturing within two miles and having major problems with his tyre, but thankfully our back-up van was still behind us and we were able to sort the problem without too much delay. Graham now heads the puncture count league table with four!
After nearly getting mown down by a bus on the A9 we were relieved to leave the main road and branch off for our coffee stop where we found a treasure at the Cornerstone cafe in Evanton where we were treated to some fantastic carrot cake while the staff also gave us another £35 towards our charity. However when Richard asked if the road was flat to Tongue they just laughed at us!
In such a remote part of the world sorting eating stops required serious pre-planning so we lunched a little earlier than usual in Bonar Bridge, before attacking the serious climb into the northern highlands. As the "A" road turned into a single track with passing places it wasn't just the hills that were against us but the midges which came out in force and, believe you me, made cycling very uncomfortable!
Late afternoon we took refuge with a pint in the extraordinary Crask Inn, which must be one of the most remote pubs in Britain, where we were joined by two-gear Kate and no-cleat Janine who had cycled up the valley to join us (see today's video clip along with a clip of the boys taken by Lance, who was obviously finding the cycling far too easy and decided to video on his iPhone!). The only problem was that afterwards we had to face a brutal final 20 miles as we passed through Altanarra, officially the coldest place in the UK, and then a final never-ending climb before we dropped into Tongue.
A tired team finally made it to the village just before 7pm, but were cheered up by the thoughts of a seafood pie which will hopefully fuel us sufficiently for our final few miles tomorrow.
